The 2006 Salt march was supported by the Sunday Tribune, Radio Lotus and Radio Ukhosi. We had support from some 50 guests from some 40 countries who were attending a conference on the Prevention of Injury and promotion of Health in the work place. Their presence added to the success of the march.
The participation of the SANDF and their support also created a unique atmosphere and conveyed a clear message of peace. The MEC for Economic Affairs, Hon Zweli Mkize attended the function after the march and lent his whole hearted support to it. The Hon Mayor and Deputy Mayor of eThekweni Municipality were also participants in the march. The Consul General of India has also supported this march and participated. A substantial number of people from Phoenix Township, and Inanda also participated. The Hare Krishna Team providing a delicious meal to the marchers. We had very good support from the South African Police Services and from health professionals. This year we are hoping to attract 5000 people and encourage clubs and schools to participate in this event. Participants have all commented on how inspired they feel after the walk.
